Historic Downtown Walking Tours:

Join one of our tours of Lacombe's Historic Downtown and learn about the people, events, and businesses which shaped this city!

Morning Tour from 9:30am - 10:30am

Afternoon Tour from 2:30pm - 3:30pm

*Meeting point for both tours is located at the Michener House Museum & Archives at 5036 - 50th street*

Blacksmith Shop Demonstrations:

Visit Alberta's oldest remaining Blacksmith Shop's to see our blacksmith work iron like they did over 100 years ago!

From 11:00am until 2:00pm

*Blacksmith Shop is located at 5020 - 49th street*

Both the Flatiron Building, and the Michener House

Museum & Archives will be open from 9:00am to 5:00pm

The Historical Society is seeking applications for the temporary full-time position of Museum Assistant. The successful candidate will report to and assist the Executive Director of the Michener House Museum with duties relating to the daily operations of the Museum and Archive. Job Description

Job title: Museum Assistant

Work Hours: 35 hours a week

Term of contract: Beginning of June to end of August, 2011

Job description: This position reports to the Executive Director (ED) of the Museum. The incumbent will assist the ED with duties relating to the daily operations of the Michener House Museum and Archive.

Duties include:

- Greeting and providing information to visitors

- Providing tours of the Michener House Museum and Archives, Blacksmith Shop and collaborating with the Tourism Assistant at The Interpretive Centre in the Flatiron Building

- Assisting ED with the delivery of programs and activities

- Daily housekeeping (includes tasks such as dusting, cleaning, taking out garbage)

- Attending and assisting at events put on by the Lacombe & District and Historical Society

- Assisting the ED with office related duties such as answering phone calls, checking emails, keeping statistics and completing reports

- Doing some accessioning for the archives

- Assisting with research and special projects under the leadership of the ED or members of the historical society

Qualifications: - Experience working in customer service or working directly with members of the public

- Telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills

- Proficient at using Microsoft Office Suite

- Works well independently

- Follows directions

- Preference will be given to applicants pursuing a post-secondary education and that display an interest in History, Culture or Education

- Currently a student
